Jan/Feb Sermon Series: Who Is This Man?

Posted on Jan 04, 2012

Jan 7  This Kid is Amazing!                        He was 12, but already he was asking harder questions than the teachers of the law could answer.  Those that heard Him were astounded at the incredible depth and understanding that He displayed, not only in the questions that He asked, but in the answers He gave to the questions that were asked of Him.  In short, they said to one another, “This Kid is Amazing!”  Where did He come from?  Who taught Him?  Luke 2:40  says “The child grew and became strong; he was full of wisdom, and God's blessings were upon him.”  The key to gaining wisdom then comes from walking with God and basking in His blessings.  Pastor Don Keele Jr will be speaking

Jan 14   Jesus is Hope                    Jaren Humphreys for Student Week of Prayer

Jan 21 (Home Leave)  Who’s Kid is This?       One sure way to get yourself in trouble is to claim to be the Promised Messiah.  Even if you are!  The people of Nazareth loved Jesus’ teaching in the synagogue and were amazed at how well He knew the scriptures.  But when He went on to say that the prophecy He had just read about the Messiah had just been fulfilled in their hearing—it was  too much.  Whose Kid is this?  Isn’t this Joseph’s boy?  Let’s take Him out and stone Him for blasphemy!   Standing for the truth is often not popular.  But it is right.  Pastor Derrick Collins will be speaking.  This is a home leave weekend and the students will be away.

Jan. 28    What Now?         “Hey, where did all of these fish come from?  We have fished all night and caught nothing—and yet, now the nets are full!”  “Come, Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men!’  “There it is—the choice.   What do we do now?  Leave everything we’ve known before and follow or stay here and perhaps miss out on the greatest opportunity of our lives?   It’s the same choice that you and I must face today.  He still calls us to follow.  Your move.  What Now?   Pastor Greg Hudson will be speaking.

Feb. 4  Who Does He Think He Is?          Can you imagine the paralyzed man’s face at Jesus’ words?  After his friends had worked to get Him to Jesus and then found so many people that they couldn’t get in, they had torn a hole in the roof and lowered Him down.  And Jesus has the nerve to say, “Your sins are forgiven you.”  The room is abuzz.  Who does He think He is?  Only God can do that!  Is He saying that He is God?  You bet.  And to prove it, Jesus heals the man and sends him home.  Do you need healing?  Sins forgiven?  You’ve come to the right place.  Our Conference President, Dr. Ed Wright will be our guest speaker.

Feb.  11   Who IS This Man?                It had been a long day and Jesus was tired, so He suggested that they cross over to the other side of the lake.  No sooner had they left the dock, than Jesus was sacked out in the back of the boat.  And that would have been fine, except the storm came…and it caused them to forget that they had Jesus in the boat with them.  Sound familiar?  They were amazed at what He did with that storm.  You will be amazed at what He can do with yours.  Pastor Don Keele Jr. will be speaking.

Feb. 18      Who Do You Say I Am?       It seemed like an innocent enough question.  “Who do people say that I am?”  But it was leading up to a greater question:  “Who do YOU say I am?”  It’s a question to cut right to the core of your belief system.  See, it doesn’t matter what the rest of the world is saying about Jesus, He still asks you: “Who do YOU say I am!”  How do you answer a question like that?  Pastor Don Keele Jr. will be speaking.

Feb. 25     What are You Talking About?      This guy was obviously out of the loop.  He didn’t have a clue what had just happened that past weekend.  And yet, the more they talked, the more things began to take on a new meaning.  It was as if old scriptures had new life breathed into them. It was as if stale scriptures suddenly became fresh. It all started when the traveling stranger asked a simple question:  What are you talking about?  And it ended when that same stranger raised His hands to bless the food.  When the realization that they had just been with Jesus sunk in, the two ran all the way back to Jerusalem to share the news, and they concluded by saying that even though they didn’t know who He was at the time, their hearts were burning within them at the truth of His words. Maybe that’s what we need.  A fresh word from Jesus. Pastor Greg Hudson will be speaking.
